Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Dr. Kenneth Donovan is certified in hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and provides this treatment at the both Livingston and Somerset Hospitals. Hyperbaric Oxygen (“HBO” for short), is a procedure where the patient is placed in a chamber that is saturated with 100% oxygen (normal room air is 20% oxygen). Patients with severe diabetic ulcers, bone infections, or peripheral vascular disease achieve great results with these treatments. When a patient undergoes the treatment, the 100% oxygen levels kill the bacteria causing the infection, and cause new blood vessel formation to help heal the wounds. Treatments are 2 hours long and are done 5 days a week for about 4-8 weeks. Both facilities provide daily transportation if needed.
